What Is a Veggie Bag Membership (CSA)?
If you’ve ever wondered what a veggie bag membership actually is, and whether it might be right for you, you’re in the right place!
At its heart, a veggie bag membership is a simple idea:
You sign up for a whole season, and each week you receive a bag of fresh, seasonal vegetables directly from a local farm like ours.
This guide explains how it works, why we use this model, and how to know if it’s a good fit for you.

What Is a Veggie Bag or CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Instead of buying vegetables one week at a time, members commit to a farm for a whole season. In return, the farm commits to growing food for you.
A veggie bag membership:
-
Runs for a defined season (ours is May to November)
-
Includes a weekly bag of seasonal vegetablesIs picked up at a set location and time
-
Reflects what’s growing in the fields each week
-
Rather than choosing individual items, you receive a curated selection that represents the farm’s harvest at that moment in the season.
How a Weekly Veggie Bag Works
Once you’re a member, the rhythm is simple.
Each week during the season:
We harvest the best of what we have at the farm
We pack veggie bags by size (small or large)
You pick up your bag on Thursdays at your chosen pickup location

What’s inside changes week to week. Late Spring might bring tender greens and baby root vegetables. High summer brings abundance of tomatoes, beans and zucchinis. Autumn slows down into roots, storage crops, and hearty greens.
This seasonal flow is part of the experience.
Why Farms Use the CSA Model
Farming is seasonal and weather-dependent. The CSA model exists to make farming more resilient, for both farmers and eaters.
When you join a veggie bag membership:
-
The farm receives income early in the season
-
This allows us to buy seeds, compost, and toolsIt reduces waste and overproduction
-
It keeps food prices fair and transparent
In return, members receive:
-
Ultra-fresh produce
-
A closer connection to where their food comes from
-
A shared relationship with the farm through the season

It’s a partnership rather than a transaction.!

Who a Veggie Bag Membership Is For

A veggie bag membership tends to work best if you:
-
Cook at home regularly
-
Enjoy eating seasonally
-
Like being surprised (a little!) by what’s in the bag
-
Want to support local, sustainable farming
It may NOT be the best fit if you:
-
Rarely cook or eat vegetables at home
-
Are looking for the cheapest option
-
Prefer buying exactly what you want whenever you want from grocery stores

Small vs Large Veggie Bags
What’s the Difference?
Veggie bags are offered in two sizes to suit different households.
Small Veggie Bag
-
Ideal for one person household
-
Typically includes around 6-7 seasonal items
Large Veggie Bag
-
Ideal for couples and small families
-
Typically includes around 10-12 seasonal items
Both sizes:
-
Are packed weekly
-
Reflect what’s growing in the fields that week
